The following is a circular I sent out in 2005:
Subject: Enhancing your Evolve eCommerce system - experienced developer beats Lynx's high rates
Dear Evolve eCommerce user,
Are you completely satisfied with your Evolve eCommerce system? Could it possibly do more for your business with the right enhancements?
Perhaps you already have in mind a specific "back office" tool that would massively facilitate the smooth running of your operation, but for which the development fee from Lynx (Evolve's parent company) would be prohibitive?
As an independent freelance web programmer, specialising in ASP / SQLserver platforms and JavaScript, I have a great deal of experience in customising the Evolve system at a fraction of the cost charged by Lynx Internet for such work.
The list of potential enhancements that an experienced and versatile web/database programmer can make to a sophisticated system such as Evolve is practically endless. Some of the things on that list can make every difference to a small business, especially when the development work is available at such a competitive rate as I myself offer.
Allow me to illustrate my point with a sample client (who has approved this message)...
One year ago www.fussfreesales.co.uk was a standard "off-the-shelf" Evolve installation. Fuss3 Solutions Ltd, who operate the web site, contacted me in need of various enhancements to their eCommerce system.
Only a skilled programmer such as myself could possibly have met all of their needs, and the rate that Lynx was quoting them for the work was simply astronomical!
Their requirements included the facility for a daily importation of their many suppliers' data feeds into their central data repository. They now have every single price and stock level from their many suppliers constantly at their fingertips.

- instantly update the stock levels advertised on their live web site, to accurately reflect the stock that is available to them from their suppliers.
- instantly update the prices on their live website according to a special "pricing curve" that allows them to define the profit margin across the whole range of items that they sell.
(their suppliers' prices and stock levels are constantly fluctuating - and now their prices change each day to reflect this, so they can be ruthlessly competitive without ever selling below their desired profit margin.)
Other Evolve-based tools that Fuss3 Solutions have commissioned me to develop include:
- exporting their entire catalogue in formats designed for Froogle, Pricerunner, Kelkoo, Pricegrabber etc. so that these "price comparison" web sites always feature their competitively priced products.
- "one-click" adding of new products to their catalogue as soon as one of their suppliers starts offering it
- integration of Open Range, a third-party "data warehouse" who supply high quality descriptions and images of 90% of their products
(even when their suppliers have no data available about a product, fussfreesales.co.uk is able to show detailed descriptions, images and cross-selling links as soon as a product is added to their range.)
- creating a courtesy email to potential customers when a specific product comes back in stock, or drops in price
- remote streaming of live price and stock data (as well as automatically generated product names, images, descriptions, titles and meta-tags) to fussfreesales' sister web-site www.tektronix-service.co.uk - hosted on a separate server by a completely different company!
Fuss3 Solutions tell me that the enhancements I've made for them to their basic Evolve system have increased their sales over the past year by a factor of more than 6 times! They have rocketed from being a minor retailer in a crowded market to being a major player in the electronics field - thanks in large part to their powerful new custom-built database management tools.
